Puerto Morelos

Puerto Morelos is a unique gem because it combines the charm of a quaint seaside village with the natural beauty of the Caribbean. From the small village main square where children play soccer with waves breaking on the reef in the background, to the local fishermen showing off their freshly caught dorado, the village oozes with its laid back personality.
The Great Mayan Reef is only a short 200 yards from the beach shores and is an ideal place to enjoy snorkeling or scuba diving with a wide array of Caribbean fish. Another popular option that the reef provides is to rent a fishing boat for the day and fish for Sailfish, Red Snapper, Dorado, Barracuda, and Marlin off the deep water of the reef.

Downtown Puerto Morelos is home to several small seafood restaurants and outdoor bistros that are perfect for enjoying a sunny lunch or a moonlit dinner while taking in the culture of the Mexican village. The downtown also has several small shops run by expats who sell all types of souvenirs.

Besides the proximity of the Great Mayan Reef, Puerto Morelos has the advantage of being conveniently located midway between the cities of Cancun and Playa del Carmen, making it an ideal location to explore all of the areas nearby attractions. Every attraction from Tulum, Xcaret, Isla Mujeres, Xel Ha, Cozumel, Dolphin Discovery and the Cenotes are only a short ride away.

Puerto Morelos also has the advantage that unlike Cancun and Playa del Carmen which have experienced extremely rapid growth, it has been designated by the Mexican authorities as a mangrove protected area with low density.
